Designing Readable Systems
Readable systems reduce operational drag because the next engineer can understand intent before touching implementation.
The best systems do not feel clever first. They feel legible. A readable system lets an engineer trace a request, understand ownership, and make a change without carrying the entire codebase in their head.
That starts with naming. A good name narrows the possible meanings of a module, endpoint, or component. It should make the common case obvious and the edge case discoverable.

Readable systems also keep boundaries visible. When data moves between layers, the shape should be explicit. Validation, parsing, and transformation deserve names because they are product behavior, not plumbing.
Finally, readable systems leave a trail. Useful logs, small comments around surprising decisions, and focused tests all help future work happen with less hesitation.
